Our R&D centre of excellence in Edinburgh, has a new vacancy for a Software Engineer to join its Infrastructure software development group. This is an excellent opportunity to work in an intellectually stimulating environment, with exposure to leading edge technology, within the medical imaging industry. As a company, we strive to create technology that makes a meaningful difference to people’s lives, helping doctors to help restore their patients’ health and well-being.

The Infrastructure software development group delivers into internal customers across the organisation, supplying a framework used to build clinical applications as well as the libraries and platform services that these clinical applications use at run-time. You will be working within one of the group’s feature focused delivery teams which provide the services and capabilities that clinical applications require to be able to run consistently, in a variety of different deployment types. Within this role, you will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the product development lifecycle, from requirements capture through to product release and support.

We are looking for enthusiastic engineers, who enjoy working as part of a team, and have the drive and ability to learn and develop new skills. This includes both recent graduates and engineers with several years of experience, who are keen to further develop their career. Candidates without an academic record should instead be able to demonstrate that they have a strong understanding and practical experience of working within a software development role.

For practical skills, we are looking for candidates who have experience of working with an OOP language, ideally Java but experience of C++ would also be suitable - both of these languages may be used within the role. However, development experience with other similar languages would also be considered. Other technologies used within the group include; Web Technologies, JavaScript, RESTful web services, Spring, Hibernate, SQL Server, Apache Tomcat, and Gradle. Prior knowledge of these areas, and of medical imaging, would be advantageous but isn’t required from applicants, assuming there is a desire to learn and work using this technology stack.

We aim to offer an inclusive, flexible and balanced working environment, by being an employer that cares for and respects its employees. We are part of a global family, that works closely with other development teams based in Japan, America, Canada and France; giving the opportunity of work placements at partner sites. As an employer, we want to provide you the right environment to allow you to develop your career, by giving you time to learn new skills and pursue your own creative projects.
