Our R&D centre of excellence in Edinburgh, has a new vacancy for a Software Engineer to join its Application Infrastructure software development group. This is an excellent opportunity to work in an intellectually stimulating environment, with exposure to leading edge technology, within the medical imaging industry. As a company, we strive to create technology that makes a meaningful difference to people’s lives, helping doctors to help restore their patients’ health and well-being.

The Application Infrastructure software development group delivers into internal customers across the global Canon Medical organisation, supplying a framework used to build clinical applications as well as the libraries and platform services that these clinical applications use at run-time. You will be working within one of the group’s platform development teams which provide the services and capabilities that clinical applications require to be able to run consistently, in a variety of different deployment types. Within this role, you will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the product development lifecycle, from requirements capture through to product release and support.

We are looking for a focused and enthusiastic software engineer, who enjoys working as part of a team, and has the drive and ability to learn and develop new skills. Ideally, we are looking for a candidate with an excellent academic record within a Computing/Scientific based discipline and with a proven track record working in a software engineer role who is keen to further develop their career. Candidates without an academic record should instead be able to demonstrate that they have a strong understanding and practical experience of working within a software development role.

For practical skills, we are looking for candidates who have experience of working with an OOP language, ideally C# or Java, however, development experience with other similar languages would also be considered.

Our technology stack also includes .NET Core, RESTful web services and SQL Server in cross-platform (Windows and Linux) and containerised environments. Prior knowledge of some of these areas, and of medical imaging, would be advantageous, but experience of the full tech stack is not required; assuming there is a desire to learn and work using these technologies.

We aim to offer an inclusive, flexible, and balanced working environment, by being an employer that cares for and respects its employees. We are part of a global family, that works closely with other development teams based in Japan, America, Canada and France; giving the opportunity of work placements at partner sites. As an employer, we want to provide you the right environment to allow you to develop your career, by giving you time to learn new skills and pursue your own creative projects.
