JOB DESCRIPTION – LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (PHYSIOLOGY)

 Salary Scales: £18,457 p.a pro-rata 

Grade: Level 1 (All Sciences)

Hours of Work: Such hours as necessary to carry out your duties. This will involve a minimum of 18.5 hours per week and may include working outside normal office hours at evenings and weekends and on Public Holidays.

Interview Date: 31st January 2019

Location: The normal place of work is the Manchester Institute of Health and Performance, however the EIS may from time to time require you to travel to and work at other offices.

ROLE SUMMARY

This role will provide day to day management of the BASES accredited Physiology Laboratory at an EIS site, and provide support to the Lead Laboratory Physiologist, and physiology practitioners working in Manchester. You will be required to liaise with the EIS admin team at Manchester to ensure smooth running of the laboratory. You may also be required to support project work that is being carried out by members of the wider EIS physiology team.

MAIN TASKS AND ACTIVITIES

  • Manage and maintain all relevant technical equipment and software
  • Contribute to the co-ordination and evaluation of equipment and software used at the EIS site
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers
  • Establish an equipment inventory and maintain records of such equipment, its maintenance and calibration
  • Maintain a comprehensive, indexed database of work conducted with athletes and coaches.
  • Ensure that maintenance and servicing procedures observe warranty regulations
  • Manage the renewal of insurance and warranty policies
  • Provide sports science support to World Class athletes, where appropriate
  • Participate in ad hoc projects and/or applied research across the organisation, as appropriate.
