JOB DESCRIPTION – SPORTS PHYSICIAN

(working with British Para-Swimming)

Salary Scales: £91,133.00 p.a. pro rata

Grade: Level 2 (Sports Medicine)

Interview date: 2nd July 2019

Hours of Work: Such hours as necessary to carry out your duties.  This will involve a minimum of 15 hours per week (0.4 FTE) and will include working outside normal office hours at evenings and weekends and on Public Holidays.

Location: The normal place of work is the Manchester Institute of Health and Performance, however the EIS will from time to time require you to travel to and work at other locations.

ROLE SUMMARY 

This role will co-ordinate the implementation, delivery and development of medical services to World Class Programme athletes, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to create a world-class high-performance training environment.

MAIN TASKS AND ACTIVITIES

Work with the Director of Medical Services, Lead Sports Physicians, identified National Governing Body (NGB) staff and Performance Leads to improve performance through developing, implementing and evaluating medical services.

  • Co-ordinate and manage medical services and facilities that are appropriate to the sport and the training objectives of elite athletes and coaches
  • Deliver clinical services to world class athletes in Para-Swimming and in a variety of training environments
  • Work with the Director of Medical Services, Finance & Operations Manager, EIS site team and NGB to ensure that there is a leading-edge programme of athlete medical support available
  • Oversee appropriate quality assurance standards for personnel, service delivery and equipment
  • Maintain a comprehensive, indexed database of work conducted with athletes and coaches in accordance with EIS medical policies and procedures
  • Use the EIS IT systems to record patient records, communicate with NGB Staff and ensure clinical audit
  • Maintain up-to-date clinical appraisal and validation with the GMC which is appropriate to the specialty of sport and exercise medicine
  • Attend medical case conferences and meetings to ensure optimal patient care and the development of the medical services
  • Work with Para-Swimming performance staff, coaches and athletes to identify individual medical service requirements
  • Ensure that the delivery of the medical service effectively meets its commitments to athletes, coaches and NGB
  • Where appropriate identify and facilitate appropriate communication methods, including workshops, to inform and educate athletes, coaches, Performance Lead and the Performance Director in the effective use of medical services
