Bryophyte Volunteer

Department – Botany
Hours By arrangement – Tuesday and Wednesday approximately 6 hours per day

Overall Purpose

To assist Botany staff in digitising the internationally important Seaward Bryophyte  collection of World Museum

Increased accessibility  of  collections

Facilitating scientific research

Collections  available online


Activities

  • Labelling specimens

  • Create records on Mimsy XG database

  • Imaging bryophyte  collections

  • Editing images in the Image Management System ( IMS)

  • Laying away specimens

Measures of Success

  • Feedback from volunteer supervisor

  • Volunteer self evaluation

  • Online feedback

Personal Qualities

  • Be able a team player
  • Show attention to detail
  • Methodical  approach  to tasks
  • Interest in Botany/Natural History
  • Experience of Mimsy XG
  • Experience of IMS

Training Provided

  • Volunteer Induction
  • All relevant curatorial training
  • Documentation procedures and IT skills, as required
