National Museums Liverpool is recruiting for a Publications Coordinator (maternity cover) to join its award-winning Marketing and Communications Team.

We are looking for a creative individual to help promote our eight museums and galleries - which attracted four million visitors in 2018 - through our what’s on guides, email marketing and social media.

Every day is different, from working on a Family Guide packed with events to reviewing GDPR compliance and growing our email marketing database. You will cross both traditional and digital marketing areas to highlight our vast amount of exhibitions, permanent collections, activities and special projects to various audiences.

Reporting to the Marketing and Publications Manager, the role offers a lot of creative scope and opportunity to use a variety of marketing techniques, while working as part of a strong, supportive team.

Job Description

National Museums Liverpool has eight museums and galleries across Merseyside and many exhibitions, events and projects. The Marketing and Communications department manages all promotion for the organisation.

Purpose of the job

This postholder will deliver email marketing and our printed publications, including regular what’s on guides and corporate documents. This involves coordinating a series of publications, including researching, writing, editing and proof-reading digital and print material, and some social media activity,  helping to promote our museums and galleries.

Main duties

  • To coordinate the production of the Family and Events & Exhibitions Guides, including compiling information from a variety of sources, sourcing images, writing copy and proof-reading.
  • To coordinate the distribution of both Guides including liaising with distributors and printers, and stock checking.
  • To research, produce and distribute National Museums Liverpool’s enewsletters and to develop ideas to grow the audience database.
  • Support GDPR compliance of enewsletters.
  • To coordinate the production of NML’s corporate publications as required. Duties will include researching articles, sourcing suitable images, writing copy and proof reading.
  • To edit and proof read marketing publications including venue and exhibition leaflets, posters, digital content as necessary.
  • To work with the Marketing and Publications Manager in reviewing, developing and disseminating writing style guidelines.
  • To work with other departments to edit and proofread publications as required.
  • To support the Marketing and Publications Manager in managing the budget for publications.
  • To be an active member of the Marketing and Communications department, contributing to other teams in the department as required.

Personal Specification - Publications Co-ordinator

Employee Specification





  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent grades A-C, including Maths and English Language



  • Degree or equivalent experience




  • Experience of copywriting, coordinating publications and email marketing.



  • Experience of commissioning photography



  • Experience of sourcing, selecting and using images for publication



Knowledge / skills

  • Ability to quickly and efficiently write persuasive, literate copy



  • Strong digital skills including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and social media.



  • Knowledge of Mailchimp email platform.



  • Confident in decision making with good judgement



  • Excellent time management and planning skills



  • Understanding of diversity and the role the post plays in promoting the diversity of NML.



  • Knowledge of copyright law



Other abilities

  • Strong eye for detail



  • Appreciation of good design, and the ability to critique materials.



  • Ability to quickly learn to use other software.
