Introduction

This is a newly created senior role at National Museums Liverpool, the national museum in the north, and the world’s leading example of an inclusive museum service.

We are committed to investing in our fundraising capacity and are seeking a dynamic fundraising leader. Reporting to our Director of Development, you will be responsible for managing our fundraising team, contributing to and implementing our fundraising strategy, and ensuring we meet our ambitious targets using appropriate fundraising methods and techniques.                                                                                                     

As a fundraising expert, you will have a wide ranging understanding of the strategic, tactical, ethical, technological and compliance issues current in fundraising. As well as managing staff with expertise in trusts and foundations, individual giving, visitor donations, legacies and corporate support you will have the opportunity to develop and manage your own portfolio of major donors.

To be considered for the role, you should have a proven track record of getting the best out of a team, meeting fundraising targets, managing expenditure and budgets, and analysing fundraising performance.

Key Purposes of this Role

  • Implementing and refining NML’s fundraising strategy, in partnership with the Director of Development and senior colleagues across the organisation

  • Line managing our senior fundraisers and inspiring them to achieve great things in their areas of specialism

  • Work on major funding proposals for trusts, public bodies and major donors

  • Meet our fundraising targets, through expert monitoring of our performance and thoughtful and imaginative interventions to keep us on track for our goals

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Our recently appointed Director of Development has been working on a fundraising strategy for NML with senior colleagues. You will have opportunity for input into the details of this strategy and will work closely with the Director of Development to implement it.

  • You will line manage our senior fundraisers. The team is currently restructuring but this is likely to include:

  • Trusts and Foundations Manager
  • Corporate Fundraising Manager
  • Individuals and Legacies Fundraising Manager
  • Membership Officer
  • Office administrator
  • Have a portfolio of your own major donors and lead on creation and implementation of a major donor strategy

  • Represent the Development Team on NML’s Senior Management Team

  • Liaise with senior staff across NML to develop project concepts and materials suitable for major funding applications and approaches

  • Lead on some of our major funding applications

  • Work with the Chairman, trustees, senior staff and project teams to cultivate significant donors and close major gifts

  • Report to the Director of Development and, through them, to senior colleagues and project teams on income raised against targets

  • Work with other colleagues in the office to help arrange, support and promote events aimed at encouraging public and private sector support

  • Work with our Database Manager to ensure that the Raiser's Edge database provides accurate and appropriate analysis of gifts, approaches and fundraising activity

  • Work with our Database Manager and other colleagues to ensure compliance of our fundraising activities including reporting, acknowledgment and record keeping in line with all legal and ethical requirements (e.g. Fundraising Regulations, GDPR, NML ethics policies)

  • Keep up to date with current fundraising practises, procedures and relevant legislation affecting fundraising activities

  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities which will assist the Development Office in meeting its objectives or contribute to your personal development
