To enable this, we capture and maintain a vast data set, including metadata about 12m sound recordings, their territorial rights holdings, performer’s contributions to them, and their use for broadcast and public performance in the UK and internationally. The architecture of the systems and processes that manage this data is crucial to PPL’s effective operations.

What you’ll be doing…

The Data Architect is responsible for the architecture of all data across PPL. The role reports into the Head of Insight & Innovation, but by nature will be highly collaborative – working with teams across various projects and enhancements to provide leadership, guidance, or support to the design and delivery of data technology.

  • Define and own data architecture principles, and data modelling and documentation best-practices, standards, and guidelines. Work with the Technical Delivery Manager and Technical Architect to ensure standards are adhered to.
  • Lead ‘macro’ and high-level data design activities. Support project/delivery estimation and planning activities.
  • Undertake detailed design activity as necessary, or support and assure developers when they are undertaking detailed design and physical data modelling.
  • Work with delivery teams across department, projects, and enhancements to provide leadership, guidance, or support to the design and delivery of data systems.
  • Work with the Analytics team to help design big-data and machine learning solutions

What you’ll need…

You’ll need a true passion for data and technology, and the willingness to get your hands dirty at times. You’ll need to work as a part of a broad team, and be able to talk our business’ language when we need you to.

  • Experience of architecting and designing complex, high volume, data systems, including data modelling, ETL and interface design
  • Experience of conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling for both relational and dimensional models
  • Experience of working with AWS cloud-based databases and data processing services
  • Experience of designing data integrations using API’s, XML/JSON and other data exchange mechanisms
  • Ability to make complex and technical information and language simple and accessible for non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work with several team, across several projects, for multiple stakeholders - simultaneously
