We are currently looking to recruit a SHEQ Coordinator to be based in our Head Office in Sittingbourne, Kent.

Purpose of the role:

This SHEQ Coordinator role will support the development, implementation and maintenance of the business management systems, effectively acting as a central and quality control function for the different segments of the safety, health, environmental and quality department.

Responsible for the administration of the Swale Heating business management system, including SHEQual reporting and technical data analysis. You will ensure business compliance to industry and legal obligations, including accreditation to ISO 14001, ISO45001 and ISO 9001.

You will support the internal and external audit process within the business including client and 3rd party certification audits and licensing activities.

Our ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate for safe, environmentally responsible and quality aware behaviours within the business. 

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Degree level educated minimum or 2+ years’ experience within a similar role
  • IRQA auditor in either ISO 9001, ISO14001 or ISO 45001
  • NEBOSH General or Environmental Certificate
  • IOSH Practitioner or IEMA Practitioner Certificate a distinct advantage
  • Strong understanding and interest in the principles around PDCA cycle (plan, do, check, act), ISO Standards, business continuous development and risk management.
  • Good communication skills; orally, in written reports, and presentations
  • Interpersonal skills in dealing with sensitive issues and negotiations and must be able to act in a confidential manner
  • Word processing to a good level
  • Excel spreadsheets ability to apply basic formulae is essential
  • VISIO process flow development
  • Ability to use Power Point and experience with Share Point is a distinct advantage
  • Self-motivated and ability to work unsupervised
  • The ability to work to tight timescales and under pressure
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Key Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Be the first point of contact regarding safety, health, environmental and quality requests for information or support from stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and escalate matters of concern regarding business compliance.
  • Investigate, record and administrate health, safety and environmental accidents and incidents in a timely manner.
  • Develop corrective actions for health, safety, environmental and quality issues to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Assist in the development of various business policies, processes, procedures and guidance material, providing support to other departments on safety, health, environmental and quality matters.
  • Responsible for undertaking technical administration, SHEQ reporting and data analysis to ensure evidence of compliance with legal, statutory, regulatory and business objectives.
  • Be first point of contact for accidents, reacting fast in the best way possible to protect the employee and business from harm.
  • Ensure the SHEQual infrastructure remains clear, accessible, in line with the document and records control procedure with only current documents available, through monitoring activity and frequent review.
  • Manage and maintain the business certifications and licenses, ensuring that upcoming expiry dates are not missed and responsible party’s complete renewal activities in advance.
  • Assist with the monthly update of the legal register ensuring relevant stakeholders are updated.
  • Undertake internal audits of the business management systems and supplier audits where required.
  • Coordinate and arrange 3rd party audits.
  • Monitor and maintain the corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) system ensuring that allocated actions are updated, time frames defined, updates are chased, and deadlines communicated so identified owners and actions are justifiably closed.
  • Attend relevant meetings and consultations, manage resulting actions and maintain supporting records.
  • Inspect equipment to a high standard, ensuring the safety of our employees when they’re working.
  • Attend regular toolbox talks to effectively communicate trends in incidents. Act as a point of contact for engineers to raise issues and suggestions for escalation.
  • Support the Business during tendering by providing up to date and relevant SHEQ information.
  • Continually research and trial cost effective equipment and PPE to ensure engineers are provided with efficient resources within approved budgets.
  • Develop and deliver internal first aid courses to internal staff
  • Support in the development and delivery of auditing courses for internal staff and paying members of the public.
  • Administer first aid as trained and act as an incident controller during an emergency as stated in the Fire and Emergency Plan.
  • Deliver appropriate H&S inductions and maintain records accordingly.
  • Undertake and update environmental impact assessments on activities across the business.
  • Develop and maintain an environmental, H&S and quality risk register, working with other departments to mitigate risks associated with their activities.
  • Support the SHE Manager in identifying trends and training requirements.

This role is based in our Head Office in Sittingbourne, however some travel will be required 

Hours of work:

This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday.
