Working for Ash & Lacy

Interview with James Bowater – Sales Executive

You’ve been with us for 17 years now, haven’t you?
Just over, yes.

And why did you come to Ash & Lacy all those years ago?
I came to do an apprenticeship and my NVQ in Business Development. I was rotated around the different departments and after 2 weeks with the Fabrication team, I was offered a job doing Sales administration.

How old were you then?
17.

It’s brilliant that you’ve been with us for 17 years! Why do you think you’ve been here for so long?
I’ve learnt so much and all of my roles here have been varied. I’ve mainly worked in various Sales roles, selling different products, but I’ve also gained some experience in IT, Customer Services and Production Planning.

Another reason I enjoy working for Ash & Lacy, is the friendly team I work with, some of whom have been working for us for longer than me – we’re more like a family.

So, what does your current role involve?
I’m an Internal Sales Executive, but I also do the estimating for the more complex Fabrication projects. We’re a small team in Fabrication, so my role ranges from finding leads to following progress on projects and dealing with any complaints etc., but always with the help and support of my team.

Do you have any longer-term ambitions with us, James?
I hope to one day progress to Depot Manager.

We wish you every success with that James!
