Job Title: Customer Service Retail Assistant
Employer: Brighton & Hove Albion FC
Contract type: Permanent, full time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week to be worked over 5 days a week generally between 8:00am - 6:00pm. The role requires working hours to include at least one weekend day and all home matches.
Location: Brighton, The American Express Community Stadium and will be required to work offsite at retail events, women's matches and pop-up shops.
Salary: £19,096 per annum

Customer Service Retail Assistant

Roles and responsibilities

  1. To greet customers who enter the flagship retail superstore.
  2. To offer help to customers who need assistance.  
  3. To serve customers at the store point of sale.
  4. To deal with customer enquiries and orders via the telephone.
  5. To replenish stock on the shop floor.
  6. To ensure the store is kept clean and tidy at all times.
  7. To assist with deliveries to the store as directed by the Retail Manager.
  8. To stow stock in the store stock room.
  9. To bar-code and package products where required.
  10. To print names and numbers on customers shirts.
  11. To assist the mail order staff when required.
  12. To assist the Retail Manager when required.
  13. To deal with customer refunds and exchanges.
  14. To ensure all product displays, features and window displays are maintained to a high standard at all times.
  15. To ensure all pricing and point of sale are correct at all times.

General duties and accountabilities

  • To support Brighton & Hove Albion FC and AITC in their aims and objectives at all times.
  • To ensure compliance with all relevant club policies, including health and safety policies.
  • To ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory, ethical and social requirements.
  • To keep confidential any information gained regarding the charity, club and its personnel.
  • To represent Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and AITC in a professional manner.
  • To maintain a flexible approach to work at all times.
  • To undertake other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience


  • No formal qualifications required
  • Previous knowledge and experience working in a retail store. Preferably, sports related
  • Experience of working in a retail customer service environment
  • Experience of up-selling
  • Cash handling experience
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills to include an excellent telephone manner and empathy skills
  • Accurate data entry skills
  • Competent level of numeracy and literacy
  • Microsoft office skills – Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Warm, friendly, helpful and cheerful persona
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Flexible approach to working hours
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Ability to travel between sites easily (car owner/driver)
  • A degree of physical fitness is needed as some manual handling and physical exertion will be required
  • A genuine team player


  • Experience of using a stock control system and EPOS systems
