Location: Based in the Midlands and will be required to travel around the West Midlands, East Midlands and East Anglia. On occasions may be required to attend the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre, Lancing.

National Area Co-ordinator (Midlands)

Roles and responsibilities

  1. To be responsible for the scouting and smooth running of a specific region of the country, overseeing the programme and the implementation of the Academy Recruitment strategy as laid down by the Academy Recruitment Manager.
  2. To be responsible for coordinating a team of scouts across to a designated area and ensuring all administrative duties are adhered to.
  3. To attend matches as a scouting representative for Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club’s Category 1 Academy including but not limited to other professional club Academy games (U14-U18) plus county, district representative games and occasional international games as required.
  4. To report on scouting activities carried out in that month and input all the player/match reports on to the BHAFC databases.
  5. To comply with all scouting protocols implemented by the Club.
  6. To keep up to date records of all games attended during the season and send through to the point of contact at the Club as instructed.
  7. To comply with the club’s Health and safety and Child Protection policies.
  8. To identify, recommend and monitor potential recruitment targets for the age range outlined by the point of contact.
  9. To record information with regard to youth / professional clubs in your region i.e. player transfers, change of ownership, financial situation etc.
  10. To record information covering all dimensions of performance and potential, technical, physical, psychological and social.
  11. To use modern scouting methods with regards reporting, recording and tracking potential player targets.
  12. To contribute to the player auditing procedures implemented by the Club and produce player reports as requested by the point of contact.
  13. To ensure contact networks are built, extended and serviced regularly in conjunction with the point of contact.
  14. To work within deadlines agreed with the Club.
  15. To ensure that all expense claims are submitted on a monthly basis supported by any receipts where applicable.
  16. To produce all player reports on Scout7 scouting data system or on our current player / match report forms via email (you will receive a unique log in number which must remain confidential; all entries will remain the property of BHAFC).
  17. To attend all in-house meetings and training/CPD as directed by the departmental manager.
  18. To keep up-to-date with EPPP and Category 1 requirements.
  19. Any other reasonable requests as outlined by the point of contact.

  • To ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory, ethical and social requirements.
  • To keep confidential any information gained regarding the charity, club and its personnel.
  • To represent Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and AITC in a professional manner.
  • To maintain a flexible approach to work at all times.
  • To undertake other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience


  • FA Talent ID Award
  • Valid and accepted enhanced FA DBS CRC (Criminal Background Check) or be willing to undertake this check if successful
  • An extensive knowledge and experience of the football industry in a similar or related role
  • A proven understanding and knowledge of the rules and regulations governing players and recruitment
  • An identifiable track record in scouting and recruitment
  • Familiarity with the mechanics of youth football recruitment
  • A good network of contacts within the professional game
  • An excellent working knowledge of and competent user of scouting databases
  • A clear understanding of the Academy system and the professional football environment
  • IT skills to include a high level of competence using Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent overall level of numeracy and literacy
  • A student of the game, continuously looking to improve and develop self and others
  • A dynamic, hardworking and enthusiastic individual
  • A strong motivator with high enthusiasm
  • Proactive attitude within the role

  • UEFA ‘B’ Licence
  • Youth modules 1, 2 and 3
  • Knowledge and understanding of child protection issues including holding a valid FA Safeguarding Children Workshop Certificate or be willing to undertake this training if successful
  • Understanding of EPPP and Category 1 requirements
