Hours: Monday evenings (4:30pm - 7:30pm with the session running from 5pm - 7pm).
Location: Based in our Whyteleafe Development Centre. On occasions may be required to attend the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre, Lancing.

Development Centre Coach (Whyteleafe)

Roles and responsibilities

  1. To be responsible for coaching football sessions and leading matches for players recruited by the BHAFC scouting network. Players are of an advanced ability between the ages of 6-12 years old.
  2. To support the management of the players coming in and out of the centres by reporting on their performance and communicating this to the Academy Recruitment Co-ordinator and parents/guardians.
  3. To monitor and keep up-to-date certificates, licenses and qualifications, administered by the FA, to enable BHAFC to deliver coaching at the highest standard.
  4. To administer high quality football coaching, enabling individuals to develop according to their abilities and encouraging them to sustain activity levels.
  5. To fulfill any administrative duties associated to the Development Centres and to keep up to date registers.
  6. To liaise with staff and participants when required to maintain first class working relationships.
  7. To guide and encourage participants to make appropriate decisions about further participation and pathway progression at BHAFC.
  8. To deliver within a range of sessions including those outside of any regular agreed programmes.
  9. To make sure sessions are fully prepared for and have a completed session plan prior to every session in conjunction with the syllabus.
  10. To identify the needs of individual groups and tailor your delivery as appropriate.
  11. To provide practical assistance to young leaders and other coaches.
  12. To adhere to safeguarding guidelines, including undertaking risk assessments and reporting any incidents/accidents to your Line Manager immediately.
  13. To create a highly professional environment for each session; which both represents BHAFC and demonstrates high levels of customer service and engagement.
  14. To act as an ambassador for Brighton & Hove Albion FC at all times.
  15. To cross promote AITC programmes that will assist with business development and secure new contracts.
  16. To attend training courses and continuing professional development sessions when required.
  17. To co-ordinate, identify, assess and then rate players in the centre in accordance with the rating system. To then make a decision with regard to the retention or release of all players that are brought into the centre under the guidance of the Academy Recruitment Co-ordinators.

  • To ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory, ethical and social requirements.
  • To keep confidential any information gained regarding the charity, club and its personnel.
  • To represent Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and AITC in a professional manner.
  • To maintain a flexible approach to work at all times.
  • To undertake other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience


  • FA Level 2 Coaching in Football Qualification
  • Member of the FA Licensed Coaches’ Club
  • A valid and accepted enhanced FA DBS CRC (Criminal Background Check) or be willing to undertake this check if successful
  • FA Youth Awards  – Module 1 and 2
  • Valid FA Emergency Aid Certificate (FA Level 1 Introduction to First Aid in Football (IFAiF)
  • Valid FA Safeguarding Children Certificate
  • Experience of planning and delivering coaching sessions in football
  • Knowledge and understanding of child protection issues
  • A dynamic coach, with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to relate effectively with the 4-18 age groups
  • Ability to adapt coaching sessions to appropriate age groups
  • A genuine team player
  • Act as a role model with behaviour consistent with the vision of BHAFC
  • Flexible and positive attitude
  • A strong motivator, with high enthusiasm
  • Ability to work unsupervised

  • Creative thinker to deliver exciting and fun coaching sessions


  • FA Level 3 Coaching in Football Qualification
  • FA Youth Awards – Module 3
  • Experience in player recruitment and talent identification
  • Experience working in professional football academies or working with elite football players
  • Experience of working with a variety of young people, including male and female, as well as different ethnicities
  • Own transport
  • A full, current valid UK car driving licence
