Job Title: Senior Grounds Person
Employer: Brighton & Hove Albion FC
Contract type: Permanent, full time
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday 7:30am - 3:30pm. Hours will include some weekends for which time in lieu or over-time may be granted.

Location: Lancing, American Express Elite Football Performance Centre. The post holder may also be required to carry out works at The American Express Community Stadium in Brighton and other club sites on occasions.

Senior Grounds Person

Roles and responsibilities

  1. To adhere to the highest standards of Health & Safety in the course of the role and encourage others to do so.
  2. To carry out grounds maintenance works to the training pitches, stadium pitch and associated grounds and facilities as instructed, to a satisfactory standard.
  3. To assist the Deputy Head Grounds staff to allocate duties for works required to the grounds staff. This is an active role and the post holder is required to work alongside the ground staff but at times may occasionally be required to help carry out some administration works as and when instructed.
  4. To operate machinery and equipment associated with sports pitch and grounds maintenance, to ensure this machinery and equipment is used correctly and kept clean, and when not in use put back to appropriate storage location. 
  5. To be prepared to work at the Club’s training ground as hours/days shifts require, these can include evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
  6. To represent the Club in a professional manner. This is a high-profile role, therefore candidates must present with a clean and smart appearance at all times. Club uniform and PPE will be provided by the Club which must be worn on duty.
  7. To attend industry training courses to maintain and develop the technical skills required for the post. Training will take place either on site or at Colleges/Training Centres.  
  8. Any other duties as needed within reason to meet the needs of the position.

  • To keep confidential any information gained regarding the charity, club and its personnel.
  • To represent Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and AITC in a professional manner.
  • To maintain a flexible approach to work at all times.
  • To undertake other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Qualifications in Sports Turf maintenance to a minimum level 2 certification 
  • To hold N.P.T.C.  PA1, PA6 and PA2 certificates in Pesticide Usage
  • A member of the Institute of Groundsmanship or be prepared to become a member
  • Qualified in the driving/operation of agricultural motor vehicles
  • Proven experience of working on professionally used football pitches and carrying out grounds maintenance operations using equipment and machinery associated with this work
  • An understanding of Health & Safety at Work principles including experience of working to risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • A full, current valid UK car driving licence
  • Competent level of numeracy and literacy
  • Prepared to carry out various manual work that this role requires

Desirable

  • A qualified first aider and/or have received training in other first aid techniques
