Academy Scouting Department Representative (Crawley)

Roles and responsibilities

  1. To be responsible for the identification and recruitment of the best talented players of a specific area, to supply the Talent ID programme with the best potential and ensure the implementation of the strategy as laid out by the Academy Recruitment Manager.
  2. To attend matches as a scouting representative for Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club’s Category 1 Academy including but not limited to grassroots, county and district representative games as required.
  3. To report on scouting activities carried out in that month and input all the player/match reports on to the BHAFC database.
  4. To comply with all scouting protocols implemented by the Club.
  5. To keep up to date records of all games attended during the season and send through to the point of contact at the Club as instructed.
  6. To comply with the club’s Health and Safety and Child Protection policies.
  7. To identify, recommend and monitor potential recruitment targets for the age range outlined by the point of contact.
  8. To record information with regard to youth / professional / Grass Roots Clubs in your region i.e. player transfers, change of ownership, financial situation etc.
  9. To record information covering all dimensions of performance and potential, technical, physical, psychological and social.
  10. To use modern scouting methods with regards to reporting, recording and tracking potential player targets.
  11. To contribute to the player auditing procedures implemented by the Club and produce player reports as requested by the point of contact.
  12. To ensure contact networks are built, extended and serviced regularly in conjunction with the point of contact.
  13. To work within deadlines agreed with the Club.
  14. To ensure that all expense claims are submitted on a monthly basis supported by any receipts where applicable.
  15. To produce all player reports on Scout7 scouting data system or on our current player / match report forms via email (you will receive a unique log in number which must remain confidential; all entries will remain the property of BHAFC).
  16. To attend the Talent ID Centre as required/able to meet and greet the parents and players that the Academy Scouting Department Representative has introduced to the Club.
  17. To attend all in-house meetings and training/CPD as directed by the departmental manager.
  18. To keep up-to-date with EPPP and Category 1 requirements.
  19. Any other reasonable requests as outlined by the point of contact.

General duties and accountabilities

  • To support Brighton & Hove Albion FC and AITC in their aims and objectives at all times.
  • To ensure compliance with all relevant club policies, including health and safety policies.
  • To ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory, ethical and social requirements.
  • To keep confidential any information gained regarding the charity, club and its personnel.
  • To represent Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and AITC in a professional manner.
  • To maintain a flexible approach to work at all times.
  • To undertake other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • FA Talent ID Award
  • Valid and accepted enhanced FA DBS CRC (Criminal Background Check) or be willing to undertake this check if successful
  • An extensive knowledge and experience of the football industry in a similar or related role
  • A proven understanding and knowledge of the rules and regulations governing players and recruitment
  • An identifiable track record in scouting and recruitment
  • Familiarity with the mechanics of youth football recruitment
  • A good network of contacts within the professional game
  • An excellent working knowledge of and competent user of scouting databases
  • A clear understanding of the Academy system and the professional football environment
  • IT skills to include a high level of competence using Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent overall level of numeracy and literacy
  • Trustworthy and able to demonstrate adherence to codes of conduct, ethics and confidentiality

Desirable

  • Knowledge and understanding of child protection issues including holding a valid FA Safeguarding Children Workshop Certificate or be willing to undertake this training if successful
  • FA Coaching in Football Certificate (can include Level 1, 2, 3 or UEFA A or B)
  • Understanding of EPPP and Category 1 requirements
