Job Title: Pre-Academy Co-ordinator
Employer: Brighton & Hove Albion FC
Contract type: 12 month fixed term contract, part-time
Hours: This is a part time role of 15 hours per week requiring a flexible approach to the working week to include evenings and weekends. Typically working hours will be; 3:00pm – 4:30pm (admin work) Tuesday and Friday for 44 weeks of the year and 4:30pm – 7:30pm (sessions) Tuesday and Friday and 6-hour matchday (usually Saturdays) for 40 weeks of the year.

Pre-Academy Co-ordinator

Roles and responsibilities

1. To oversee and manage the pre-academy early foundation phase U7 and U8 age groups.
2. To make sure the coaches are fully prepared for the sessions and have completed a session plan prior to every session in conjunction with the syllabus.
3. To carry out, where necessary, the duties of a coach in their absence and work as part of the development centre team in all development initiatives.
4. To be the main point of contact for parents within the pre-academy.
5. To liaise with development coaches, key recruitment staff and lead foundation phase coach.
6. To help develop the training programme for these ages in liaison with key full-time staff.
7. To be responsible for ensuring that all other necessary paperwork is completed and that the session register is accurate and up to date and that each child is signed in and out of every session.
8. To develop and manage the games programme for these ages.
9. To complete all necessary administration for all pre-academy activity. Including arrangement of fixtures, half-term activity and training sessions.
10. In conjunction with the pre-academy coaches to co-ordinate, identify, assess and then rate players in the centre in accordance with the rating system. To then make a decision with regard to the retention or release of all players that are brought into the centre under the guidance of the Academy Recruitment Co-ordinators.
11. To liaise with the parents of the players in question, then to keep them informed of the next step with regards to their training.
12. To ensure that the development centre spreadsheet is up to date and accurate and is emailed to the Academy Recruitment Co-ordinator each week.
13. To liaise with the Academy Recruitment Co-ordinators on a weekly basis with regard to player retention and releases.
14. To attend trial games as and when required.
15. To ensure that all parents are acting and behaving in an appropriate fashion and that all parents are issued with and sign for a 'Parents Code of Conduct' handout as supplied by the Brighton & Hove Albion FC.
16. To ensure that all players in their charge, also act in an appropriate fashion and that all players are issued with and sign for a 'Players Code of Conduct' handout as supplied by Brighton & Hove Albion FC.
17. To be responsible for maintaining and accurately recording the centre incident and accident book and to deal with any emergencies that may arise.
18. To wear the club issue clothing at all times.

  • To ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory, ethical and social requirements.
  • To keep confidential any information gained regarding the charity, club and its personnel.
  • To represent Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and AITC in a professional manner.
  • To maintain a flexible approach to work at all times.
  • To undertake other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • UEFA ‘B’ Certificate in Coaching Football
  • Youth modules 1, 2 and 3
  • Valid FA Safeguarding Certificate
  • Valid FA Emergency Aid Certificate
  • Valid and accepted enhanced FA DBS CRC (Criminal Background Check) or be willing to undertake this check if successful
  • An extensive knowledge and experience of the football industry and the professional game in a similar or related role
  • Experience of working with foundation age groups and a clear understanding of the specific needs of the U7 – U8 age groups
  • A clear understanding of the Academy system and the recruitment of players into these ages
  • Grass roots and development centre experience specifically related to pre-academy initiatives
  • A dynamic coach
  • Ability to relate effectively to the age group
  • Good overall level of numeracy and literacy
  • Management experience of staff and potential young players
  • A student of the game, continuously looking to improve and develop self and others
