We are currently looking for a Management Account to join our Finance team to provide professional business support to budget holders, ensure financial control and effective decision-making.

You will work in a small supportive finance team while working closely with budget holders to help deliver the vital support provided by Housing for Women. This will include business partnering and improving the systems and processes.

Housing for Women is an independent organisation and we support women in London to challenge the inequalities they face. As a charity and a registered housing association, we are proud to have housed London’s women for 85 years; providing secure, affordable housing and related services to help them make the most of the opportunities they have.

 

In this role your main responsibilities will include:

  • Produce accurate and timely monthly management and departmental accounts. 
  • Hold regular reviews with budget holders, identifying variances and correcting errors accordingly.
  • Produce KPIs and data analysis to enable decision-making by the Executive Team.
  • Work with budget holders to produce departmental annual revenue budgets and forecasts, including working papers and summaries. 
  • Assist the Finance Manager with preparing the organisation’s annual financial statements and liaising with the auditors for an efficient and professional audit process. 
  • Provide monthly and/or quarterly reconciliations of financial position accounts for review by the Finance Manager.
  • Ensure the correct accounting for income and expenditure in accordance with the applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements. 
  • Prepare and post nominal ledger adjustments to reflect outcomes of conversations with budget holders.

 

To be successful in this role you will need:

Essential

  • CCAB qualified or similar relevant experience
  • Good interpersonal skills particularly explaining finance to non-finance staff and working with others in the finance team
  • Proactive at problem-solving
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail

Desirable

  • Experience of preparing and reviewing management information
  • Experience of preparing year-end financial statements
  • Knowledge of statutory and regulatory environment for UK charities/housing associations/companies.

Overall Aim

 

  • Provide professional business support to budget holders and ensure financial control and effective decision making through financial, operational and business evaluation and analysis.
  • Support financial planning through the creation of budgets and forecasts and report on performance through the production of management accounts and other analytical reports for the organisation, as required.
  • On-going development of analytical reports and accounts on any aspect of the organisation’s activities contributing to the overall appraisal of the organisation’s performance.
  • To provide appropriate financial and performance information to the Executive Team and Committees and external statutory bodies as directed by the Head of Finance.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Management Accounts

  • Produce ccurate and timely monthly management and departmental accounts. 
  • Hold regular reviews with udget holders, identifying variances and correcting errors accordingly. Provide alerts on matters of likely current or future financial concern as soon as these are known within the management accounts commentary.
  • Provide ad hoc financial management information and analysis on request, including in the more technically complex areas of the management accounts. 
  • Provie information relating to key performance indicators including sector comparisons where appropriate to Executive Team and Committees.

 

Financial Accounts

  • Ensure the correct ccounting for income and expenditure in accordance with the applicable accounting standards, statement of recognised practice and any regulatory requirements. 
  • Prepare and post nominal ledger adjustments, including accruals, prepayments, apportionments and transfers to Trust Funds.
  • Assist the Head of Finance with supporting the preparation of the organisation’s financial statements and to liaise with the auditors to ensure an efficient and professional audit process. 

 

Financial Control

  • Provide monthly nd/or quarterly reconciliations of financial position accounts for review by the Head of Finance.
  • Update the Finance system with new cost codes and validations as advised.&nsp; Provide coding advice as required making the most of the functionality within the finance system.
  • Review all proesses and maintain procedure notes on areas of responsibilities.
  • Create an amend creditor and debtor codes on receipt of completed paperwork.

 

Budgeting and forecasting

  • Work with relevnt budget holders to produce departmental annual revenue budgets and forecasts, creating necessary working papers and collating budget summaries. 
  • &nsp; Assist the Head of Finance in the creation of the organisations annual revenue and capital udgets as required and in accordance with the agreed timetable.&nsp;
  • Review the budget setting proess to ensure that explanatory process notes are maintained. 
  • Create an annual buget book to assist budget holders.
  • Import budgt information into the accounting system.

 

Fundraising financials

  • Support the submission of bids for grnts
  • Support the reporting on spending of grants

 

Service Charge Accounts

  • Support in the plnning and preparation of the annual service charge accounts, ensuring the delivery of the audited statements within the agreed timeframe. 
  • &nsp; Be the first point of contact with the external audit team in respect of the service charge audit, planning and organising the on-site work.&nsp; Liaise, as required, with the auditors to ensure an efficient and professional audit process.&nsp;  
  • Keep up to date with hanges in service charge legislation, accounting and management as it affects the organisation. 
  • Value for Money and KPI’s
    • Provide timely costing informtion on the organisation’s activities to assist with the measurement and reporting of Value for Money.
    • Responsile for the preparation of data to support benchmarking information provided to HouseMark and other benchmarking organisations.
    • Collation and presentation of the monthly KPI’s to the Exeutive Team.
    • To unerstand the cost drivers of the organisation and to propose reviews aimed at enabling Housing for Women to be a leading association in the terms of cost efficiency.

 

Service

  • To chieve a complete understanding of the financial reporting requirements of the management accounting team’s customers and to develop reporting mechanisms to meet those needs.
  • Work as a service team, understanding and fulfilling internal and external customer requirements.

 

 

General

  • To implement corporate governance procedures, risk management and internal controls and to maintain the Association’s Finance Manual and internal control documentation;
  • To work with Internal Audit teams and to ensure implementation of internal audit recommendations within the organisation;
  • Contribute to the management and development of computerised financial and accounting systems.
  • To carry out any other duties commensurate with the post as may be required.

 

 

Other Duties

  • To attend meetings, conferences, courses and training sessions as deemed necessary.
