Key Responsibilities
The work that you’ll do will be similar to an entry-level graduate under some of the responsibilities for your area of preference below. You’ll also have an individual project to complete and present back on at the end of your placement.
Actuarial
- Designing clients' benefits and reward packages
- Identifying risks and potential mitigation strategies for asset and liability management
- Improving security and quality of life for retirees
- Advising on remuneration and wealth creation strategies
- Developing a communication strategy supporting a change project
- Identifying and helping develop modelling systems to deliver client solutions
- Working involvement in client account development
- Supporting new business propositions
- Keeping on top of and advising clients on legislative changes
- Understanding changes in the financial markets and implications for our clients.
Defined Contribution
- Formulating advice for peer review by consultants on all aspects of defined contribution consulting.
- Performance analysis of portfolios and production of quality monitoring reports.
- Day to day point of contact for clients.
- Project work including pension scheme vehicle reviews, investment strategy reviews, at retirement design reviews, pension design reviews
- Develop a network and build relationships with both internal and external contacts.
- Improving security and quality of life for retirees.
- Advising on DC pension legislation.
- Developing communication strategies supporting a change project
Investment
- Devising plans for meeting client's long-term targets
- Identifying appropriate level of investment risk for client schemes, to help address scheme deficits
- Advising clients on the appropriate structure for their investment portfolio, considering the full range of asset classes and the impact of financial markets and the economy
- Handling implementation of a change in the structure of a client’s assets
- Carefully monitoring our clients’ investment arrangements and regularly reporting to clients on progress
- Researching investment managers/approaches/products to ensure we can advise on those that best fit our clients' needs
- Explaining to clients how financial markets and the economy impact on different types of investment
- Working with DC clients to ascertain the appropriate investment options for scheme members
Life and Financial Services
- Working with innovative analytical and modelling tools to help clients understand longevity, investment and other types of risk
- Reviewing the appropriateness of insurance products to ensure they remain appropriate
- Presenting the results of our calculations and modelling in an engaging and compelling way
- Carrying out research and helping write articles across all six areas of focus
- Attending client meetings, developing your consultancy skills
- Developing your technical skills and life insurance knowledge
- You’ll also focus on building and nurturing client relationships

Qualifications
- A-Level Maths Grade B and above, Scottish Higher-Grade A or above, or equivalent
- Penultimate year university student
- On track to achieve a 2.1 Honours degree in any discipline.
