Kymab was founded in 2010 and has since raised over US$220m of equity financing to advance several therapeutic antibody programmes in immune-oncology, auto-immunity, haematology and infectious disease. More information about Kymab can be found at www.kymab.com.

We are looking for an innovative & inquisitive Research Scientist to drive the binding data strategies for the screening and characterisation of antibody panels.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, alongside discovery and development project teams to advance the characterisation of antibody lead panels and the understanding of their mode of action.

You will be reporting to the team leader of protein analytics and formulation, joining a small team whose function is to design and run analytical platforms for antibody characterisation and pre-formulation activities to advance preclinical and clinical studies.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the development and running of novel assays to define binding, kinetics and quantitation by SPR and BLI technologies. A broad understanding of protein analytics and pre-formulation studies would be advantageous.

You will:

  • Design and perform kinetic studies using SPR or BLI technology.
  • Generate and deliver high quality and well documented kinetic data packages to support Kymab’s drug discovery and development portfolio.
  • Provide innovative solutions for the design of kinetic methods to characterise complex molecules (e.g. bispecific) and ensure Kymab remains at the forefront of implementing new technological developments.
  • Maintain meticulous records and data interpretation for the use in research reports, patent filings and publications.
  • Assist in the training & development of other members of staff

Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • PhD in a relevant area (e.g. Protein Biochemistry) with extensive post-doc or equivalent industrial experience in a relevant role related to protein biochemistry/biophysics. (i.e. a fresh PhD entry level would be considered but additional experience is expected)
  • Extensive knowledge & understanding of protein biochemistry and protein biophysics
  • Experienced in the development and running of SPR and BLI based methodologies for binding, kinetics and epitope binding methods
  • Previous experience using of Octet and Biacore equipment would be advantageous
  • Experience & knowledge of analytical tools such as chromatographic and capillary electrophoresis methods, light scattering methods would be advantageous

Skills & knowledge

  • Demonstrable innovative thinking to deliver SPR/BLI strategies
  • Demonstrable strengths in planning, organising, analytical skills and problem solving
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, troubleshoot effectively and respond quickly to changes in priority
