Kymab is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a deep pipeline of novel antibody-based therapies in a broad range of indications. The Company generates its product candidates using its proprietary, integrated platforms collectively called IntelliSelect®. Kymab’s platforms have been designed to maximize the diversity of human antibodies produced in response to immunization with antigens. Selecting from a broad diversity of fully human antibodies allows for the identification of antibodies with optimal drug-like properties.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Scientist I/II with expertise in the adaptive arm of the immune system to identify and assess novel biological therapeutics in the treatment of cancer.

Key Responsibilities:

You will deliver high quality data in support of identifying & mechanistically assessing lead molecules within the Immuno-Oncology Group.

Deliver & interpret complex datasets to provide essential recommendations to senior members of the team & company more broadly.

Work closely with other teams within the Immuno-Oncology Group, in a matrix environment & play a key role in contributing on a technical & strategic level by being able to initiate new target proposals that introduce innovation for generating new IP.


Education & Experience


  • Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Immunology, Cancer biology or Cell biology, or a related field. Ideally you will have post-doctoral and industrial or related experience. 

  • Proven track record evidenced by first author publications / patent authorship / delivery of molecules into development.

  • Experience in the development of assays to assess the activity and function of T cells ideally in the context of the tumour microenvironment

  • Hands-on experience in vitro assay development with technical proficiency in standard and novel assay formats.

  • Experience in the design and execution of mode-of-action studies for lead characterisation as well as design and implementation of assays in support of clinical development.

Skills & Knowledge


  • Ability to define individual protocols and large experimental blocks of work to answer key questions around pharmacology and antibody mode of action

  • Extensive technical knowledge in the conception and generation of assays that answer probing fundamental biological questions that allow us to determine the value of our targets and lead antibodies

  • Technical competence in multiplexed analytical techniques including: multi-parameter flow cytometry and primary cell handling.

  • Knowledge of and experience of RNAseq & cytokine analysis is highly desirable, along with the ability to analyse and report on large datasets.

  • Interactive skills: Presentations, proven team working and negotiation skills, ability to engage wider team with strategy, plans and novel ideas.

  • Comprehensive theoretical and technical knowledge of immunotherapy in oncology and a deep understanding of the role of the innate immune system in the interaction in the tumour microenvironment

  • Can advise others of requisite assay strategies and approaches and bring new assay techniques and technologies to bear to answer critical biological questions in line with company objectives

  • Keen awareness of the development of the scientific area of immunotherapy of cancer and the broader immunological context

  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and collaboration skills to work in a team-oriented, matrix environment.  Ability to adapt to and effectively manage changes in a fast paced and dynamic environment, able to share data, analysis and approaches in 1:2:1, team and wider company meetings
