We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic laboratory-based protein expression specialist to support our in-house mammalian mid-large scale antibody and protein expression team. This position is within the development organisation but operates across the entire Kymab portfolio from early discovery to early development projects, across all therapeutic areas.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Mammalian cell culture
  • Recombinant protein expression utilising transient and pool CHO platforms from 30ml to 20L scale, including transfection, selection and recovery (where relevant), and overgrow culture maintenance and harvest
  • Plasmid DNA preparation at various scales
  • Contributing to on-going process development and optimisation strategies within the group
  • Contributing to the development of novel platforms
  • Providing support to several projects simultaneously, linking effectively with the project leaders and other scientists as required

Job Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • BSc/MSc or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Experienced in mammalian suspension cell culture, preferably CHO cells and ideally in an industry or biotech environment
  • Experienced in recombinant protein production in mammalian cell lines, preferably antibodies

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated ability to devise strategies to optimise expression levels, yields and processes
  • Ability to work to deadlines and maintain clear and accurate records
  • Innovative thinking, flexibility to adapt quickly and a “can do” attitude
  • Computer literate
  • Basic molecular biology skills e.g. cloning and preparation of plasmid DNA (mini, maxi, mega, giga preps)
  • Experience in wavebag/bioreactor multi-litre scale cell culture, with particular knowledge of GE Healthcare Wave 25 system a bonus
  • Knowledge or experience of stable cell line generation would be advantageous
