Kymab’s platforms have been designed to maximize the diversity of human antibodies produced in response to immunization with antigens. Selecting from a broad diversity of fully human antibodies allows for the identification of antibodies with optimal drug-like properties.

We are looking for an enthusiastic laboratory-based protein purification scientist to work in the Purification group providing key reagents to help progress projects to the next stage of development. Mainly focused on antibodies and antibody-based proteins, you will be involved with numerous projects at various stages of research and will have the opportunity to become involved in their development by playing a vital role in this core team.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Purification of expressed antibodies and proteins from mammalian cell culture

  • Process optimisation and defining purification conditions for more challenging molecular entities

  • Optimising downstream processing

  • Biophysical QC of above material (SEC, SDS-PAGE, Western, etc.)

  • Managing a small team of lab-based scientists

  • Providing support to several projects simultaneously, linking effectively with the project leaders and other scientists as required

  • Clear and accurate data collection and presentation

  • Experience in scale up and scale down processes to aid development work - including use of DoE software

  • Knowledge or experience of platform process design would be advantageous

Job Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline

  • Good backgroundn knowledge of protein biochemistry

  • Experienced in all commonly used protein purification techniques

  • Experienced in use of automated purification equipment (ideally Akta systems)

  • Previous hands-on experience in a bioprocess/method development environment in an industry setting

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated innovative thinking to devise strategies to optimise purification processes

  • Ability to work to deadlines and maintain clear and accurate records

  • Innovative thinking, flexibility to adapt quickly and a “can do” attitude

  • Computer literate

  • Strong organisational ability  

  • Ability to work to tight timelines
