At Kymab, bioinformatics plays an integral role in discovering and validating the next generation of drugs. This is a fantastic opportunity to pursue a 4yr BSc bioinformatics honours degree apprenticeship while working in paid employment at a cutting-edge biotech company developing life-saving medicines.

Training will be provided by both Kymab and Anglia Ruskin University. It is anticipated that 80% of your time will be spent at Kymab, and 20% at Anglia Ruskin University.

Apprenticeship summary

Bioinformatics is an exploding field of study where informatics tools are used to interrogate and understand biological data. In this role you will be exposed to a variety of different bioinformatics and software projects. These will encompass different data types, require varying bioinformatic tools and programming languages and help to develop an understanding of different biological and scientific processes. Our experienced team will help to mentor you along the way.

We will tailor the projects you work on to fit your strengths and interests, and you will take on more responsibilities as your knowledge and skills increase. Example day to day tasks include:

  • Maintaining and running a bioinformatics sequence processing pipeline for discovering next generation medicines
  • Performing data analysis and visualisation
  • Curating databases
  • Interacting with and supporting the bioinformatics needs of laboratory scientists

Desired qualifications

  • 112 UCAS points or equivalent
  • Numerate A level (Grade B or equivalent): computer science, statistics, math, physics or another numerate discipline. An equivalent qualification would be acceptable
  • Scientific A level (Grade B or equivalent): biology preferred. An equivalent qualification would be acceptable
  • At least 4 GCSEs at Grade B/ Grade 6 which must include math and English
  • If English is not your first language, you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 or equivalent
