Youth Company Programme Leader

(3 days per week)

 

Mayflower Theatre is the largest theatre on the South Coast with 2,271 seats in the auditorium. The Theatre’s aim is to bring a diverse range of shows to Southampton. We present a mixture of spectacular touring productions, from musicals to dance, opera, drama, ballet and comedy.

Mayflower Studios is a cultural and community hub. We present family shows, dance, musicals, music, comedy, circus, cabaret, spoken word, and visual arts. We put participation at the heart of everything we do.

Both the Theatre and Studios operate under the Mayflower brand. Collectively we provide Inspiring Experiences to all who engage with each venue.

As Youth Company Programme Leader, you will coordinate the young people’s company for our Christmas Youth production at Mayflower Studios, focusing on company wellbeing/safeguarding and participant administration. You will also lead on Youth partnership projects and recruitment across our entire youth provision.

We are searching for someone with a "can-do" attitude and the ability to work well under pressure to project manage youth projects in the Participation department.

 

Summer Youth Project & Christmas Youth Production

We stage two large scale youth productions a year. Our Summer Youth Project takes place at Mayflower Theatre for two weeks in August with a cast of 150 performers. Our Christmas Youth Production takes place in studio 1 in Mayflower Studios with a cast of 50 young performers. Both productions are musical theatre and are led by a professional creative team. This role will coordinate the young company for our Christmas Youth Production and then deputise for our Summer Youth Project.

 

Youth Partnerships

Mayflower partners with a range of local youth organisations to deliver our youth provision. These are currently City Eye Young Film Makers, Blue Apple inclusive Youth Theatre and ArtfulScribe Young Writers.

What are we looking for in our Youth Company Programme Leader?

  • Educated to a degree level in dance, drama, performing arts or an arts-based subject would be desirable or equivalent qualification or experience
  • At least 2 years’ experience of project managing programmes with young people
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time and work to strict deadlines.

understanding of the theatre production process.

  • Previous experience of administering and co-ordinating arts-based projects
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Be a self-starter and independent worker, whilst also working well within small teams.
  • Maintain a flexible approach and be an independent problem solver.
  • Be skilled in Microsoft packages inc. word, excel, outlook and PowerPoint
  • Experience in evaluation and reporting on projects

Working hours & salary: The salary is £28,000 pro rata (£14.35 per hour).  This role is based on 22.5 hours per week on an annualised hours contract which includes evenings and regular weekends. It will include working Sundays from September – December and working full time hours during our Christmas Youth Project.

Interviews will be held at Mayflower Studios on 6th May 2025 and include a practical task and formal interview.
