Associate Board Member

The Role: We are looking to appoint a candidate who will have a blend of skills, knowledge and abilities, that complement the current make-up of the Board and bridge the gap we have identified within the Board, as we enter an exciting time in our organisation’s development and growth. 

The role’s key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide engineering and project management assurance and support, specifically to the successful development and delivery of on time and on budget major Capital Projects,
  • provide input on the strategic direction of business growth and development,

Critically your business and professional experience will be required to assist development of the strategic growth plans for the business whilst ensuring the core business outputs meet the needs of the customer and the Regulator. 

The Candidate:     

Candidates must demonstrate all of the following essential criteria:

  • Board-level experience withing a hazardous regulated industry;
  • An enthusiasm and desire to support the successful delivery of OPA’s challenging agenda;
  • An engineering degree and experience of successfully delivering major multi-million-pound Capital Projects on time and on budget;
  • Able to demonstrate sound strategic business acumen with experience of delivering commercial growth from business;
  • Sound judgment, analysis and decision-making skills, and the ability to provide a challenging and supportive role to the Chairman and Chief Executive.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Held a senior engineering position at Director level within the private sector in a high hazardous industry, preferably withing the oil and gas industry, for at least 5 years;
  • An understanding of Manging Public Money.

The role requires someone of high moral stature, excellent interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy and strategic vision, with the ability to positively influence those inside and outside of the Agency who impact on the overall direction of the organisation.

The successful candidate will be required to attend approximately 8 OPA Board Meetings per year and visit OPA operated facilities. They will also be required to attend Strategic Review Meetings, normally no more than 1 or 2 a year.  The appointment will be for an initial term of 3 years starting early 2021.
