Area Electrical Engineer (North)

(Location: Garelochhead, Helensburgh, or Loch Striven, Dunoon)

The role: We are looking to appoint an Area Electrical Engineer, to be based at one of our Scottish OFD’s (Oil Fuel Depots) located at Garelochhead, Helensburgh, Argyll & Bute, or Loch Striven, Dunoon.

In this newly created role, you will be reporting to the Snr Electrical Engineer, and be responsible for providing professional Electrical Engineering support for the Maintenance and Inspection of Electrical Systems, throughout the OPA assets. This will include playing a leading role in identifying and implementing electrical improvements to reliability and maintainability  to ensure the systems are safe, reliable, robust, and conform with company policy and regulatory requirements. 

As the Area Electrical Engineer, you will be accountable for all Electrical Engineering matters across the OPA Assets. Supporting the Snr Electrical Engineer and functioning as his regional deputy, the role will require the post holder to be an experienced supervisor who is able to demonstrate strong leadership and who can positively engage all stakeholders, and motivate staff throughout the organisation. There will be a requirement to travel routinely to the other sites within the area and on occasion the need to travel to other OPA OFDs/Operational Sites, to provide technical support for maintenance and project activities. All activities should be carried out with a focus on engendering a positive safety culture, demonstrating our values set out in our Fundamental Principles at all times and ensuring that safety standards are maintained at all times. 

Responsibilities:

These duties include, but are not limited to;

  • Accountable for ensuring the compliance with the Planned Preventative Maintenance schedule for Electrical maintenance and inspections for all OPA assets via Agility (CMMS),
  • Maintain, Manage, and own the High Voltage & Low Voltage Interconnection systems including the Primary Earthing Systems. This will include the inspection and maintenance up to 11KV distribution networks,
  • To hold the level of Authorised Person Electrical to manage the operation and maintenance of the High Voltage & Low Voltage systems across the OPA assets,
  • Function as the technical lead (Electrical) when required for the delivery of Minor New Works projects carried out across the OPA Assets,
  • Oversee maintenance, inspection, and system upgrade programmes,
  • Ensure compliance with Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) at all times in conjunction with the Site Management team,
  • Providing electrical technical assistance to the relevant Project Engineer / Subject Matter experts for the production of engineering scopes,
  • Providing electrical technical assistance and support for all Electrical Maintenance activities,
  • Support the Capital Project Works incorporating the acceptance criteria and assessment, 
  • Provide support to the electrical maintenance aspects of the business providing operability and reliability judgements on installed systems and equipment,
  • Lead small scale projects to upgrade Electrical Infrastructure as required,
  • Deputise for the Snr Electrical Engineer as and when required,
  • Provide Electrical engineering assistance to supervisors and technicians around fault finding and repair of plant and equipment,
  • Proactively participate with the other members of the maintenance management/supervisory team, in the evolution of the Maintenance Department to meet the challenges of the introduction of new instrumented systems across the estate managed by OPA.

The candidate: This role requires the post holder to be experienced in Electrical Maintenance, Supervision, and have extensive knowledge around Electrical Engineering, Maintenance, and Inspection Processes.

Candidates must be a qualified Electrical Technician, having served an EITB or equivalent apprenticeship in an industrial environment and ideally have a minimum of 5yrs experience post apprenticeship experience gained in an COMAH environment.

Line management experience is also an essential requirement for this newly created role. The postholder would be required to hold an HNC in an Electrical Engineering discipline as a minimum,  have a working knowledge of or an understanding of the requirements of a top tier COMAH installation, and the safety culture, which must always prevail in such establishments.

As travel to other sites will be required, candidates will need to have a full (preferably clean) driving licence.
