The role

We are looking for an analyst with excellent analytical and communication skills and a track record of delivering results.

You’ll work most closely with the policy teams - research and innovation policy, engineering policy and education policy. At the Academy, we do policy differently; we explore exciting and engaging ways to share our evidence, insights and advice and create new opportunities to connect policymakers with the best engineering thinking and expertise. From how to achieve net zero, to addressing the engineering skills gap, you’ll play a key role in finding creative ways for analytical activities to strengthen the insights, evidence and impact of our policy projects.

As you’ll be joining the research and innovation policy team, we are particularly excited to deploy your skills to help us ensure that the UK has a dynamic and thriving ecosystem for engineering R&D and innovation.

We’ll look to you to raise the profile of analysis within the Academy. You’ll be the internal expert on analysis and will get to apply your skills across all our activities, from measuring the impact of our work, to improving diversity and inclusion in the engineering profession. You’ll collaborate with colleagues to scope, design, deliver and commission programme evaluations and relevant research.

You’ll enjoy close working with the Senior Leadership Team, supporting them to present compelling evidence of the Academy’s impact and developing funding bids. To do this you collaborate with colleagues in government departments, national academies and UKRI to build the evidence base and deliver analysis.

To succeed in this role, you’ll have good knowledge in a range of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and be confident in applying them in different contexts across unfamiliar topics. You’ll be a skilled communicator, able to summarise complex information in an accessible, engaging way to a range of audiences. You must be able to link the analytical work with the bigger picture, and you’ll need to be great at collaborating.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to shape and develop the Academy’s analytical activities and we’ll provide you with excellent support to help make that happen.

The skills we look for are:

  • Highly capable in a quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
  • Ability to quickly build contextual competence in unfamiliar topics
  • Exceptional visual communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills

The experience that would be hugely beneficial would be:

  • Experience in presenting research outputs in various formats, tailored to a range of audiences.
  • Championing the importance of quantitative research and evidence with colleagues and external stakeholders of all levels.
  • An appreciation of the role of engineering, research and innovation in society

The behaviours that make you successful here are:

  • A team player, able to adjust to changing priorities
  • Self-motivated and proactive
  • Diplomatic and flexible with a collaborative style

What we offer:

We are small enough that you will be known, seen and understood, and big enough to offer great benefits which you would usually associate with much larger organisations. We offer an unrivalled package of benefits including a non-contributory pension scheme, BUPA cash plan, private medical insurance, subsidised restaurant, regular social activities, health and wellbeing programmes and the possibility of flexible working, as well as significant investment into your personal and professional development.

We have an inclusive and flexible approach to hybrid working based on trust and respecting individual difference, with a fantastic central London office near St James’ Park when you need it.

We are open to secondments and candidates wanting to work flexibly or part time.

Interviews will be held virtually w/c 1 November.
