Digital Asset Officer

The Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom’s national museum of arms and armour and one of the most important collections of its type in the world, housed at its headquarters and flagship museum in Leeds, its historic home at the Tower of London, and the Victorian Fort Nelson in Hampshire.

We are looking for a Digital Asset Officer to join our Intellectual property team, providing support uploading and maintaining digital assets within a variety of museum databases. This includes the DAMs (Digital Asset Management System) and Emu collections database.

The main duty of this role will be building on existing information to enhance digital assets. Occasionally this role will be required to creatively support the requirements of the wider museum, generating and editing digital assets.

This role reports to the Senior Digitisation & IP Manager and will also work closely alongside the Licensing & DAMs Project Manager, Senior Licensing and Media Partnerships Manager and Head of Commercial & IP. Close collaboration with colleagues around the museum on a variety of commercial and non-commercial digital and creative projects will also be required.

This position is a permanent role working full time, 37.5 hours per week, 5 days out of 7. Weekend, Bank Holiday and evening working will occasionally be required. Applications for part-time are welcome.

Job Description

Purpose

  • Ingest digital assets within the digital asset management and collections systems that include images, video, sound, documents and various other digital files.
  • Ensure that content uploaded to the digital asset management and collections systems are catalogued with the correct object information, with the addition of extensive keywords and rights information.
  • Ensure keywords are up to date and consistent across systems.
  • Support teams around the museum on keywording, Alt text and SEO projects.
  • Monitor and adjust any incorrect information within the digital asset management system.
  • Ingest and migrate legacy digital content into the digital asset management system.
  • Investigate legacy digital assets to obtain rights information and project details.
  • Assist the Senior Digitisation & IP Manager and Licensing & DAMs Project Manager with museum permission requests.
  • Upload assets and add further information to the commercial, Online Picture Library System.
  • Identify and report any issues with the museums collection of digital assets.
  • Occasionally support with large digitisation projects on site when required.
  • Ensure minimum digitisation standards are met when uploading new digital assets to the DAMs.
  • Occasionally undertake digitisation requests of collections objects and assist with creative commercial and non-commercial requests.
  • Use editing software to clean and modify digital content before ingesting into DAMs or Emu system.
  • Using design and editing skills to create and modify artwork for commercial and non-commercial projects.

Relationships

  • Utilise internal relationships that cross team boundaries and demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with all team members and departments.
  • Working with Collections, Operations and Brand & Audiences staff to ensure digital assets are created, stored, catalogued and published effectively.
