Casual Museum Assistant
£10.42 per hour
Band E/L1
The Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom’s national museum of arms and armour and one of the most important collections of its type in the world, housed at its headquarters and flagship museum in Leeds, its historic home at the Tower of London, and the Victorian Fort Nelson in Hampshire.
Working as a casual museum assistant you will work within all public-facing areas of the museum, including welcoming visitors to the museum, looking after our world class collection and stewarding in the tiltyard.
Applicants will have substantial experience dealing in a public facing customer service role along with cash handling experience and supervisor duties.
A Police Check will be requested in the event of a successful application. However, a criminal record would not necessarily be a bar to employment. Any decision made would depend upon the nature of the position and the circumstances and background of your offence
This position is a casual contract, working various days and hours offered may include Weekend, Bank Holiday and evening working, this is dependant on the business requirements for cover.

FULL Job Description
- To deliver outstanding levels of customer service at all times and always put the customer first
- To be the face of the museum, welcoming all visitors to the museum at Front of House
- To promote commercial areas of the museum and encourage fundraising to meet steep targets
- To provide information about exhibits and the museum in an interesting, informative and accessible way
- To operate commercial areas of the museum such as the Crossbow Range, handling money and ensuring the health and safety of all visitors and staff
- To patrol all galleries to ensure the security of the collection
- To ensure the safety of visitors at all times and evacuate the museum when required
- To ensure all security checks are completed on a daily basis
- To monitor and maintain standards of cleanliness and repair in the galleries.
- To identify and report security risks and potential hazards
- To process transactions accurately in line with the cash handling procedures
- To fully support reception duties when required
- To undertake any other tasks reasonable commensurate with the job role

- Cultivate internal relationships that cross team boundaries and demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with all team members
- Maintain and build partnerships with senior managers and museum partners
