A Befriending Volunteer will visit a person with a life limiting illness at home to provide them with company or to enable their carer to have a break from their caring role. The role does not include any personal care, administration of medication, complex moving and handling or domestic duties nor does it replace any professional paid worker. The Befriender visits at prearranged times and the role involves, sitting with the person, providing conversation, company and engaging them in social activities e.g. playing cards, watching TV, or just being there in the carer’s absence.
It can also involve accompanying them out socially or for hospital appointments.
