Charity initiatives/Corporate social responsibility at Tenet

People at Tenet are always involved in some form of fundraising or charity initiative...partly because we just love having a bit of fun, but partly because it makes us feel good to help local charities. Here are some examples of a few of the bigger initiatives we've been involved in over the last year or so:

Three Peaks Challenge

A team from Tenet completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in 2014; a 25-mile trek that included climbing the county's three highest mountains: Whernside, Pen-y-Ghent and Ingleborough.

The team took 12 gruelling hours to climb all three peaks, and managed to raise more than £4,000 for the Leeds Sunshine & Smiles Down Syndrome charity.

Five Mountain Challenge

Niki Porter, from the Tenet relationship management team tackled five mountain challenges in as many months during 2015 to raise money for the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research charity. Her mountaineering marathon began when she conquered Helvellyn, in the Lake District (see picture). Also on the list was Scafell Pike in May, followed by Snowdon and the Yorkshire Three Peaks in June before Ben Nevis in July.

Her efforts are in support of Niki's cousin Thea Wilson, who was told she had leukaemia in December. Each individual mountain represents a course of Thea's chemotherapy, with the Yorkshire three peaks reflecting the "ups and downs she has had to put up with so far," explained Niki.

Christmas Toy Appeal

Last year, Tenet staff again played a vital role in ensuring that more than 15,000 West Yorkshire children do not wake up on Christmas morning without a present to open.

For the ninth year in a row, Jenni Jowett from Customer Services, organised a major contribution to Radio Aire's 'Cash For Kids' initiative - handing over a record £2,000-worth of toys, thanks to the generosity of staff from all departments and a matching donation from the company.

"It's hard to believe that in this day and age there are still children out there who don't receive a single present on Christmas morning," she commented.

Tenet Does Tandems

Journey's end: A twelve-strong team from Tenet tackled a 34-mile trek to York on tandems in March last year to raise money for Sport Relief 2014. They're pictured here in front of the city's famous Clifford's Tower, just four hours after setting off from head office.

"None of us had ridden a tandem before," said organiser, Mark Sage from Marketing, "but despite one or two hairy moments along the way, the trip was relatively incident free and no-one even suffered a puncture."

And by the time they reached their destination, the group had pedalled their way to an incredible £2,650.

"That was way in excess of our target and made everyone's efforts even more worthwhile," enthused Mark, who's pictured here with his fellow tandemeers (L to R): Richard Dodgson, Sarah Deeney, Caroline Bradley, Jennifer Parker, Nicole Turner, Ben Ludgate, Nataliya Ludgate, Cleo Essono-Ekani, Jordan Seal, Lisa Woods and Nicola Willock.

'Strictly Learn Dancing'

Chris Benson and Louise Baines co-hosted St. Gemma's Hospice's 'Strictly Learn Dancing' event at the beginning of 2015. The event raised over £7,500. Debbie Riggs participated in the event, attending dance lessons for three months in preparation for the contest!

In addition to these fantastic events, every Friday is a 'Dress Down Day' where each staff member pays £1 and the money goes to local charities hand-picked by employees. We also love a good 'Bake Off' at Tenet, with cake sales and competitions a regular feature during the year. Macmillan Coffee Morning is an annual event always supported by Tenet, with our traditional coffee and a cake deal available to all staff throughout the day!
