Assistant Director – Young Company Summer Production 22

The Parent Show

Directed by Nicole Redfern

Freelance Position, Fee £2000

Theatre Royal Plymouth is seeking a South West based Assistant Director for our next Young Company production, The Parent Show. This will be performed in the Drum from 25-27 August 2022.

The Parent Show will be a devised, ensemble piece of theatre, developed with members of the Theatre Royal Plymouth's Young Company. The show will explore the relationships between the teenage cast and their parents, focusing particularly on the young people's ideas, images, knowledge, and experience of their parents. It will look at who their parents are now - but also who they once were, in their pasts.

The show will be produced in the Drum Theatre at the Theatre Royal Plymouth in August 2022.

The cast will be aged between 14-20 years old.

As a devised show, the exact content of the show is currently unknown, and will be developed with the young people over the summer months.

The assistant director will work closely with Nicole Redfern, Director, in creating this production. The assistant director will need to be available for all rehearsals leading up to the performances.

Please see rehearsal schedule attached. This will be a devised production so experience in devising, writing or dramaturgy would be an advantage.

YC Summer Show rehearsal schedule

Alongside the Director, you will be responsible for maintaining a productive and safe environment during the rehearsal process. The cast will be made up of 16-20 young company members aged 14-21.  You should be comfortable working alongside a group of young people from a variety of backgrounds and with differing levels of experience. Applicants should be interested in fostering a collaborative and supportive approach to developing work.
