TITLE: Test and Development Engineer


RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Product Development



Test and Development Engineers work closely with the specialist design engineers to support the design, development and test activities as part of the new product development team. This will include developing test plans and test procedures, building and fault-finding breadboard circuits setting up and performing RF tests and measurements etc.





  • Work closely with the design engineers to build and test prototype circuit boards and assemblies
  • Plan test equipment and design and build test fixtures
  • Support both internal and customer facing Design Reviews
  • Work with key suppliers to agree requirements and resolve issues
  • Work with production engineers and assemblers to ensure that DFM is built in to all new designs
  • Work with design engineers and customers to obtain acceptance test approval 



  • Knowledge of switch-mode power supply topologies and components
  • Knowledge of RF test and measurement equipment
  • Knowledge of defence requirements, standards, methods, processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of test procedures
  • Knowledge of analogue circuits, testing and debugging




  • Support specialist Electronics Design Engineers to build and test breadboard circuits and prototypes through to pre-production units
  • Responsible for producing test plans, procedures and test reports for First Article Testing in line with customer expectations
  • Working closely with the mechanical, electrical and production engineers to define and document design changes
  • Supporting the Engineering team in the preparation of proposals and cost estimates
  • Review customer product requirement specifications and work statements to provide supporting commentaries and information for proposals
  • To undertake any other task which, may reasonably be requested
  • To comply with the Company Policy on Health & Safety





BTEC level 4/5, HND or BSc qualification in Physics or Electrical / Electronics Engineering




Experience and knowledge of power electronics and / or RF microwave power amplifiers and associated test and measurement equipment. Awareness of electrical safety requirements and potential hazards. Knowledge of defence industry design, development and manufacturing processes and standards. Knowledge of military EMC requirements and implementation techniques.
